Sarasota County – An Accident Involving 3 Cars Has Occured On I-75 And River Road In Sarasota County Wednesday Morning Resulting In One person Criticaly injured.
According to the report by FHP, the fatal crash began as a Honda Civic driven by a 34-year-old man from Lehigh Acres, Florida was traveling north in the left lane of I-75 (SR-93) South of CR-777 (River Road).
A Mack Tractor-Trailer driven by a 31-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida was traveling north in the center lane of I-75 south of CR-777 (River Road).
A Jeep driven by a 67-year-old woman from North Port, Florida was traveling north in the right lane of I-75 south of CR-777 (River Road).
The Honda was driving ahead of and adjacent to the Mack Truck and the Jeep.
The Honda attempted to change lanes from the left lane to the center lane into the right lane directly in front of the Mack Truck.
As a result of the Honda’s actions, At 9:45 A.M. the front of the Mack Truck collided with the rear of the Honda. The Honda traveled off the roadway to the right, where the front of the Honda collided with a traffic sign prior to colliding with several trees.
The Jeep was struck with debris from the Honda. The Honda came to final rest facing north on the right shoulder of the I-75 northbound exit ramp south of CR-777 (River Road) against a tree.
The Mack Tractor-Trailer and The Jeep were moved from final rest prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
The driver of the Honda suffered critical injuries and the driver of the Mac Truck suffered minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate this traffic crash.
